Description

Position summary:

Directs, coordinates activities and operations to obtain maximum use of internal and external use of truck fleet. Reviews and analyzes expenditures and operational reports to determine requirements for increasing the departments profitability.

 

Position responsibilities:

  • Directs and coordinates motor, rail and internal transportation activities
  • Negotiates freight rate schedules, carrier files and tariffs according to ICC regulation
  • Quotes freight rates for truck loads, pool, LTL and rail to Sales Dept, Brokers, Purchasing and Cost Accounting and rates freight bills as required
  • Audits company truck drivers logs, calculates driving time available per driver before trip, and maintains strict DOT files. Handles disciplinary measures for those drivers not conforming to DOT regulations
  • Prepares trip reports for freight revenue and driver payroll and enters driver payroll data
  • Maintain time schedules for incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Continually develops and manages the fleet safety program with the goal of achieving and maintaining an outstanding fleet safety record
  • Prepares various reports using on-line format to include trip reports, MPG and mileage for tractors, loaded and empty mile ratio, percent of private fleet goods delivered in each state, toll miles in each state, mileage and fuel tax comparison
  • Administers random drug testing program as required by the DOT
  • Reviews and analyzes performance of fleet operations
  • Negotiates contracts with carriers
  • Enforces compliance of operations personnel with administrative policies, procedures and safety rules and government regulations
  • Prepares recommendations on findings for management review
  • Conducts studies on company freight cost in order to improve profit potentials
  • Schedules all delivery appointments for company fleet
  • Provides a high level of customer service
  • Solicits trucking business from sources outside the company
  • Develops and maintains an effective organization through selection, training, leadership, motivation, and coaching

 

Essential skills and experience:

 

  • Reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication, problem solving.

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • This position requires an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration of Logistics, and/or a minimum of five years experience in the Traffic/Transportation field and inventory control. Must be knowledgeable of DOT rules and regulations and be familiar with state rules and regulations affecting company vehicles. This position requires at least 2-3 years of management experience.

SQF Requirements/Responsibilities:

  • Support SQF requirements by maintaining food safety plan and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner to ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, and Kosher product requirements.
  • Report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action and or Food Defense issues to the Food Safety and Quality Department.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Safety is vitally important not only at our facility but also from a personal standpoint. Employees are responsible for understanding and following all safety procedures. Likewise, food safety is a key performance indicator. Understanding this, GMP and housekeeping procedures are to be followed as part of any job at our facility.
